Overstaying your UAE visa triggers automatic fines of AED 50 per day (standardised across all emirates since February 2026), an exit permit requirement, and potential entry bans. Our immigration lawyers in Dubai negotiate with GDRFA and ICP to reduce or waive overstay fines, secure exit permits without arrest, and lift overstay bans.
A UAE overstay occurs when you remain in the country beyond the expiry date of your visa or the end of your grace period. Under Federal Decree-Law No. 29 of 2021 and Cabinet Resolution No. 65 of 2022, the ICP and GDRFA enforce overstay penalties automatically.
Fines are recorded in real time in immigration databases and flagged at all UAE airports and land borders. Paying the fine alone is not enough — an exit permit, potential blacklisting, and eligibility for amnesty are all determined separately.
AED 50 per day standardised across all emirates since 11 February 2026. Applies to tourist, visit, residence, and cancelled residence visas alike.
Overstays exceeding 6 months can trigger a file, potential arrest on exit, and re-entry bans ranging from 1 year to permanent.
Overstayers with more than 30 days of penalties must obtain an exit permit before departure at an additional cost of AED 250–300.
Fines accrue from the first day after your visa expiry or after the applicable grace period ends. The current unified rate is AED 50 per day across all visa types and emirates.
| Days Overstayed | Fine (AED) |
|---|---|
| 1 day | AED 50 |
| 5 days | AED 250 |
| 15 days | AED 750 |
| 30 days | AED 1,500 |
| 60 days | AED 3,000 |
| 99+ days | AED 10,000 (ceiling) |
Fines are capped at AED 10,000 under the current schedule. However, the length of overstay continues to matter for detention and deportation decisions.
The grace period is the window after visa expiry or cancellation during which you may remain in the UAE without incurring fines. Duration depends on visa type and whether it was expired or cancelled.
| Visa Category | Grace Period | Fine Trigger |
|---|---|---|
| Tourist visa | None | Day after expiry |
| Visit visa | None | Day after expiry |
| Visa on arrival (30-day) | 10 days (extension only) | Day after expiry if no extension |
| Employment visa | 30 days | Day 31 after cancellation |
| Family / dependent visa | 30–60 days | After grace period ends |
| Investor visa (2-year) | 60 days | Day 61 after cancellation/expiry |
| Golden Visa (10-year) | Up to 180 days | After grace period ends |
| Green Visa (5-year) | Up to 180 days | After grace period ends |
